Anghami, Babyshop & UNHCR present “Frequencies of Peace”: A Journey of Hope and Healing

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 21 September 2023 – Anghami, the leading music and entertainment streaming platform in the MENA region, has announced its partnership with UNHCR, and Babyshop to launch “Frequencies of Peace”, an ongoing initiative which aims to help millions of families and children across the Middle East, through awareness, education, and charitable donations.

Nearly five million children born in the Middle East since March 2011 have been through war and conflict. With every passing day, they encounter sights and sounds no child should ever experience – sounds that often lead to PTSD, high rates of depression, and stress as they grow older. According to UNHCR’s Global Trends Report in 2022, children make up 30% of the world’s population, but still account for 41% of all forcibly displaced individuals. Children living in areas affected by wars and disasters often experience psychological distress, including anxiety, sadness, fatigue, and sleep disturbances.

The scientifically-supported lullaby, developed with a dedicated team of neuroscientists from music therapy platform Spiritune, is a specially constructed song capable of calming, soothing and helping children get to sleep whilst living in devastating situations. A vital tool for parents and caregivers, the lullaby has been informed by evidence-based research in music therapy and neuroscience from leading institutions, such as New York University and Stanford. The Lullaby was created by music experts, psychologists, and the Arab artist and songwriter Ghaliaa Chaker, as it employs specific musical properties known to induce calm, comfort, and sleep.

Marian Bahadar, VP of Marketing at Anghami shared her thoughts on this meaningful initiative, saying, “Music possesses incredible healing power, especially in times of hardships. It offers solace and uplifts the mood. Frequencies of Peace serves as a tool for parents and caregivers to help reduce some of the physiological states that often arise in traumatic situations. Our hope is that this lullaby, downloaded and heard by many, can provide children with a soothing, peaceful sleep, enveloping them in the healing embrace of music.”

The lullaby is airing at bedtime, 8pm local time in Syria on “Melody FM” and “Arabesque FM” and is available to stream and download on Anghami. Performed in Arabic by the Syrian artist Ghaliaa Chaker, the public is urged to listen, share with their loved ones, and are invited to donate on UNHCR or at Babyshop stores to help children in need.

Mitin Chakraborty, Head of Marketing at Babyshop, added, “In my role as Head of Marketing for Babyshop, I’m routinely part of discussions that shape our brand and its products. However, there comes a time when you look beyond marketing strategies, advertising campaigns, and balance sheets. It’s a time when you realize the power of community and collaboration in driving ideas that can change the world. Our initiative, ‘Frequencies of Peace’, stemmed from such a moment. We were struck by a painful reality – countless children growing up in war zones were being denied the simple, yet profound privilege of a peaceful night’s sleep. We knew we had to do something, and so, ‘Frequencies of Peace’ was born and the solidarity shown by our partners – UNHCR, Spiritune, and Anghami – was truly inspiring.”

In a world often marked by chaos and sound of conflict, “Frequencies of Peace” sheds light on the healing potential of music, compassion, and cooperation. Through this joint effort, we unite in a mission to provide hope and solace to those who need it the most.
