In 2021, IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry) announced that the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is the fastest growing region, with a growth rate of 35%.
This year, IFPI announced the launch of the first-ever MENA chart in collaboration with Anghami, the leading music and entertainment streaming platform in the region. Anghami made major contributions in providing data and trends of MENA, hence bringing the chart to life. The chart captures music streaming from 13 different markets across the region, from Morocco in the West to UAE in the East – covering more than 300M people. It is prepared following the standards of the global chart authority IFPI, trusted by artists and fans alike. The chart in full detail is available on theofficialmenachart.com.
Today, and for the first time ever, the MENA region is seeing a major shift in trends, with the new emerging artists who are breaking the mainstream rules.
Artists such as Farid, with his Egyptian hit “Be Emaret Meen”, have topped the chart in MENA across different countries.
The chart also features Wegz with his major hit “El Bakht”, which has reached the highest number of streams ever recorded on Anghami with 45,000,000 streams. This song has been in the top 10 of Anghami Charts since its release in February 2022, for over 50 weeks and counting.
Other major tracks such as “Calm Down” by Rema, an African rising artist who broke all records, topped the International charts.
Saudi artist “Ayed” is also creating history by riding a new youthful wave of music in Saudi Arabia.
To wrap up, the MENA region is now officially setting itself on the map of worldwide growth in the music industry. This is only the continuance of a great 10-year era since the beginning of streaming: for greater breakthroughs to come.
