In April 2018, I stood on the Dubai Lynx stage to tell the story of The Power of Audio (covered in a previous Blog), that day did not only promote Anghami as a regional Audio powerhouse, but connected me with a community who’s passion drove me to this moment right here.
On September 30th, International Podcast Day, the Podcast Community came together to find Middle East Podcast Forum to officially form a community that together will put the MENA podcast platform on the right path. Supported by Anghami who had launched a Podcast tab, the journey kicked off from there.
Podcasts in the Middle East was not new, and many Podcasts had been live for a long time, Kerning Cultures, Amaeya Fm, Mstdfr and many more had been at it for years, many I got to discover and meet personally, people like Basel Meets, When Women Win, Watching Machine, Dukkan Media, Finyal Media, Savvy Talk, AboluteGeeks, Hamburger Generation, Lovin Dubai, Mohtwize, Nobody’s Famous, Sowt, Ma3azef, the list goes on and on and on. You can discover all the Podcasts on Anghami
It took a lot of hard work to teach Anghami the difference between a Podcast and a Song, Anghami’s amazing engineers, have been enhancing the user experience day after day, and as of March we started seeing growth. 100% growth in March vs April, and another 70% growth in April vs March and still we have not launched Podcasts officially and Podcasts lay in a tab only found by those who look for it.
Podcasts on Anghami is young, it is a new extension and a milestone that strengthens the position of Anghami as an Audio Platform , in the past 6 months we have gathered over 100 shows and over 200,000 streams form the region and met amazing people from Egypt, UAE, Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates. Soon, we will officially launch it and take it to the next level.
Podcasts on Anghami has a wealth of Arabic content and not just international, the power of local and Arabic content is a gem we must cherish, promote and celebrate.
Like Music, people have Arabic and international taste and Anghami is committed to bring forward all the content that people love. The best part is, there are amazing english Podcasts from story tellers from this very region. Kerning Cultures, Lovin Dubai, Basel Meets, Hamburger Generation, When Women Win, Amaeya Fm, Nobody’s Famous, Watching Machine, The Anthony Salame Podcast, The Empower Series, Kris Fade, Brent Black, ITP Live’s Uncut with S1, AbsoluteGeeks, Oh My, I’m sure I’m missing some, but this is the power of our region, and more to come.
The beauty of Anghami is in its accessibility via multiple platforms, Desktop, Mobile, CarPlay, Samsung TV, Apple TV, Play Station 4, if a tech can play music, it will play Anghami, making content so easily accessible. The only barrier to enjoying the content, is a 2min if not less registration process. Ha, not a big barrier considering that the access to the content is free 🙂
I actually got so excited I actually launched my own Podcast, and it has taught me a lot in the little time it has been live about the art of this amazing format, the efforts it takes to script and structure the content, the talent it it requires to bring a story to life by Audio is a simple, but not easy. I will be writing a separate blog about it, a very special topic to my heart, Hip Hop.
If you have not checked Podcasts on Anghami please do, and share with us your thoughts. Are you a music listener or a Podcast Listener, or do you listen to both….whatever it is , it is on Anghami, The Sound of Freedom, the platform, that is from the region, and for the region.
Peace out!
